Cupcake Art

Cupcake Stand by Wilton.

Cupcakes have made a comeback lately, and for good reason.   They are delicious and an easily portable goodie to eat on the run.  They can be decorated in many ways with flowers, lollies or fancy icing.  It is limited only by your imagination.

When you have created a cupcake work of art you need somewhere to display them, and this stand is perfect.  It holds 23 cakes and makes a stunning centrepiece to any table.

Scruffy Bunny

Sometimes it just isn’t good to be a tidy little creature.  Just look at Scruffy Bunny from Unique Kids.

Isn’t he cute?  He has little squeakers in his hands and feet which will amuse babies.  He is soft, cuddly and squishable.

He would make a great gift for a newborn but I think he is good looking enough to sit on my bed and wait for me.

See?  Scruffy can be comfortable.   Click on the Unique Kids link below to find out more.

What about a good book?

Winter is setting in here and at night all I want to do is to curl up with a good book.  Luckily Rachel GIbson has a new book out called “Not Another Bad Date.”

What does a gal have to do to get a good date in this town?

Adele Harris can’t even begin to answer that question. She’s had so many lousy dates that she’s sure she’s cursed. Why else would every man she goes out with suddenly act like he’s lost his mind—and his manners? Adele thought life couldn’t get any more confusing . . . until she learns the marriage of her seemingly Miss Perfect sister is on the rocks. So she goes back to their hometown to give her a shoulder to cry on, only to run smack into Zach Zemaitis . . . the one who got away.

A nice, romantic piece of chick lit to while away the evening.  Available fromFishpond

Don’t Eat Me!

I am not food!  I am soap!

These soaps look just like cupcakes and they are part of a new git pack from Funky Soaps.  Two delicious and edible looking cupcakes soaps are packaged with a recipe book specialising in cupcake recipes.  Isn’t that a great idea for a gift?  See the soaps, start to wish for a real cake and, hey presto, the recipe book is at hand.

Other packs in this range include the Chocolate Gift Pack (aren’t you glad I didn’t show you that one?) and the Dessert Gift Pack (Look, Ma,  no calories!)  Each comes with two decadent soaps and a matching recipe book.  These are excellent kitchen teas and housewarming gifts.

I’m Becoming My Mother.

\

This is the title of a funny new book by Anne Taintor.  Anne is famous for her clever matching of vintage prints with witty one liners which she has produced in a range of stickers, notebooks and other essentials of life.

I’m Becoming My Mother is a book which combines new work with some of her best loved images in one volume.  It is the perfect gift for any woman because Anne deals with motherhood and domesticity with her tongue frimly stuck in cheek. As an example, a typical comment by Anne is “Wow!  I get to give birth AND change diapers!”  It would especially suit those of us who are perhaps, shall we say, not very domesticated?

Available now from Tonic Gifts.

Life in the fashion world.

Beauty Banquet has posted an article on ‘bitchiness in the fashion world’ .  I have often wondered what it would be like to work on a fashion mag.    Sadly, the closest I will come is to living those worlds by DVD.  Pass the popcorn, I want to dream!

Two movies which spring to mind are “The Devil Wears Prada” and, from my daughters collection. “13 Going on 30″, which is one of our favourites.  It is funny watching these people scheme and fight and live their snobby, selfish lives but it is not the way that I want to live.  It makes for a great afternoons entertainment, though!

If you haven’t seen these movies then grab them from DVD Orchard where they are well priced.

Don’t sit in front of the TV all day.

Ingrid, from Small Business Ideas, wrote a post recently about how she got her kids up and moving instead of sitting in front of the telly all day.  She bought them a Wii Fit, which her kids loved.   I love the concept of the Wii which makes people participate in the action.    No more parking yourself on the beanbag and flipping buttons all day.

One game that is on the list for Christmas (yes, already!) is Showtime Championship Boxing.

The game says “Showtime Boxing utilises the Wii’s innovative control schemes to put you in absolute of your boxer’s attack and defence. Throw punches, dummy, dodge, block and duck all using the Wii Remote for the ultimate console boxing experience.”  My kids do karate and all of the dodging and punching practice will be handy, as will the reminder to keep their guards up.

This and a great range of other games is available from Gamehead.
