Mothers in Business Carnival - January

mums.jpg

Welcome to the January 2008 edition of mothers in business carnival.

We had a lot of submissions again this month which is great.  I would appreciate a link back from authors whose submissions are listed here.

I would also like to remind authors that the topic must be of specific relevance to women in business, not just business in general.  This carnival began because women find issues and challenges from business that men do not encounter.  The carnival is designed to collect useful information all together in one spot as a resource for women in business.

Without further ado………………

Liz Fuller presents Today’s Woman Entrepreneur - Alicia Rosam of Ali J posted at More Than WE Know, saying, “Many entrepreneurs tell me that marketing and sales is their least favorite aspect of running their business. Go behind the scenes with this remarkable young entrepreneur and discover her secrets for gaining visibility in dozens of online and offline mediums. Even though she has only been in business a few months, her artwork is now hanging in public and private collections in 22 countries. There are bound to be some suggestions that you can mirror and apply to your own business.”

Lauren Franklin presents Once upon a time… posted at Finding my mommy voice.

Kenton Newby presents Can You Really Make Money Showing People “How To”? posted at KentonNewby.com, saying, “I had a talk with a family member the other day. Let’s consider an example and I’ll let you do the math and be the judge.”

If you’ve started a business or are thinking about doing so, then you’ve probably heard that you need a business plan. If you in any way hope to have investors support your company growth or to obtain a business loan, you have to have a business plan. You won’t even be considered without one. 2.Pick your month of birth.
3.Copy-paste the traits for all the twelve months (see below).
4.Highlight the traits that apply to you and if you would like write some wit or not.
5.Tag 12 people and let them know by visiting their blogs and leaving a comment for them.
6.Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve done it!

Well, I was born in January so let’s see how I fit the mould………………

Stubborn and hard-hearted.  Stubborn, for sure, but I am soft like a caramello.

Ambitious and serious.   I think these traits are starting to push themselves forward, heaven help the world!

Loves to teach and be taught.  I love to learn, but teaching?  uh uh.

Always looking at people’s flaws and weaknesses.  No more than I look at their strengths and potential.

Likes to criticize.   Is venting the same thing?  I like to vent to a friend then get on with things.

Hardworking and productive.   Usually yes, but as you can see from the name of the blog I enjoy my down time too!

Smart, neat and organized.    ROFL!!!  Never in a million years!!!

Sensitive and has deep thoughts.   Sadly, yes.  What a way to make life difficult.

Knows how to make others happy.  Hm.  Ask the others.  Hahaha.  I do my best.

Quiet unless excited or tensed.   Definitely.  I would rather be a wall flower, but I can be vocal if I think something is wrong or has missed an opportunity.

Rather reserved.   Yep.

Highly attentive.   To what?  Have I missed something?  :-)

Resistant to illnesses but prone to colds.  That sounds about right.  How dull.  At least I could have an interesting fever or something.

Romantic but has difficulties expressing love.   Blush.  How did you know that?

Loves children.   I love my own, but I am not crazy about having other peoples kids underfoot.   Funny, then, that there are always extra kids here!

Loyal.    Yep!  I’m your for life.  :-0

Has great social abilities yet easily jealous.   Does a wallflower have social abilities?  Maybe after a champagne or two……

Very stubborn and money cautious   Deep sigh, yes.  Oh to splurge on $200 handbags.

My local Business Women’s Network

There are a lot of women working from home now, especially in my area which is growing quickly, and being filled with young families. Many families are struggling to make ends meet on one wage so one parent (usually Mum) tries to work part time or from home. This can be a very isolating experience, so we have formed a network so that we can aid each other and add some human contact into the equation.

This is our Mission Statement which tells you what we intend to achieve as a group.

“We are a network of professional women who represent service, retail and home-based business. We provide support, information and education for women who are currently in business or are just starting out. As a group we actively provide feedback to local bodies regarding policies which affect us. Above all, we provide continual encouragement and inspiration for all working women as they balance the demands of work and family life.”

We are business women who have planned our business strategies, and we know our business well. We meet every one -two months at Hogan’s, Northern Highway, Wallan

We come from a variety of businesses. Many of us work from home. Our group is made up of beauticians, accountants, alpaca breeders, artists, consultants, shop owners and representatives from many more types of business.

We offer training and education in all areas of business. We seek out and provide specialised training as needed by the group, such as computer skills, record keeping, and Sales and Marketing strategies.

We offer help in developing your business plan, which is one of the most important documents that you will develop for your business.

At this stage membership is free, and there is a small charge to attend each meeting. We keep our costs to a minimum so that it doesn’t stop anyone from coming along. We even manage childcare if it is needed.

If you need support in your home area why not start your own network? The benefits are amazing.
