My Monday Off No comments yet

I first fell in love with D’Artagnan when I saw Gene Kelly in the role when I was a child.  I always loved the tale of The Three Musketeers but once I saw this film I was D’Artagnan’s secret admirer for ever after.  I loved the humour that Kelly put into the role but I was moved to tears during the scene of Constance’s death.

I was thinking of it over the weekend and I came across a recipe called D’Artagnan Cocktail on About.com.  What a discovery for a champagne lover!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Armagnac
  • 1 tsp Grand Marnier
  • 3 tsp fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp simple syrup
  • 3 oz chilled Champagne
  • orange peel for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Pour the Armagnac, Grand Marnier, orange juice and sugar syrup into a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir.
  3. Strain the chilled mix into a Champagne flute.
  4. Top with Champagne.
  5. Garnish with an orange peel dropped into the drink.

Doesn’t that sound like the height of decadence?  I think that I will treat myself to an afternoon of D’Artagnans, but not all of the champagne kind.  Time to sip while I watch the film again, I believe!

Just so that you don’t feel left out here is a clip of Gene Kelly in the role of D’Artagnan, showing his humourous side!

What a huge week this has been. The Spring Style Hunt was on and it went really well.  This weekend will certainly be the time to put my feet up and rest.

Part of the Hunt was a Hurdle Race for the sponsors.  Their Hurdle was to create a piece of advertising that could be used anywhere online, in places like their blogs, facebook page and so on.

Here are a one that I submitted for Beauty Banquet  To see the winning entry from Dream Candles click here.

How hard is it to use lipstick? No comments yet

You would think that all you need to do is paint your lips with lipstick, wouldn’t you?  Well, that would explain why so many women complain that the colour doesn’t last.

One of the secrets to long lasting lip colour is to have lips that are in great condition.  Keep them protected even on the days that you don’t wear lipstick.  Lip balm will stop them from drying out.   Lips that are dry or flaky wll never hold the colour and will certainly not give you that smooth look that you want.

Another tip is to colour your hold lip with the lip liner which can add a littel depth to the colour but will also last longer.   A simple top up will be all you need throughout the day.

Here is a video showing one technique for applying colour to your lips. It is still pretty simple but it will give you a better chance of having your lipstick stay on.  It is a good introduction to the art of painting your lips for anyone who wants to be a painted lady.

Eternity Perfume for me. No comments yet

I posted last week with a big sook about running out of my favourite perfume.  i have been on the hunt for an online store that will sell it to me at a decent price.

I found The Greatest Buy - perfumes online.  They currently stock my perfume in the 100ml size for only $61.  Guess who is a happy shopper?

I know what I am doing today.   Today is the start of the Spring Style Hunt over at Beauty Banquet.

I will be watching people scramble to follow the clue trail throughout 26 sites.  It should be an adventure!   The Hunt doesn’t end when the scavenger hunt is over.  There are events going all week.  Tomorrow is Fashions on the Field where hunters get to dress the Stewette.  Who is Stewette?  Wait and see!  I will show you some of the entries here later in this week.

On Wednesday the hunters will be shopping as all of the stores put on some incredible deals just for them.  The funniest thing is that the hunters earn points each time they snap up a deal and those points might just earn them a prize at the end of the week.  What a bonus!

On Thursday the hunters become judges as the store owners do a race of their own.  I will show you ‘the evidence’ of this later, too.

On Friday the winners are announced, amid much celebration.

The week should be an amazing experience and I will certainly keep you posted with how it goes.

Here is a poem full of Friday night attitude.   I found it at Shaken and Stirred and the swagger in the poem really appealed to me.  Imagine having that much confidence in yourself?  I think this is a poem that Miss Piggy would love too.  What a way to take your revenge on the one who left you.  There is sadness in the poem along with a touch of desparation, but all through it is a woman’s awareness that she can be the sexy stunner when she chooses to be.  Work it, girl!  Use the attitude.

Enjoy the poem and then go out and try to be so full of attitude for once.  This is a poem that is all woman.

“What Do Women Want?”

I want a red dress.
I want it flimsy and cheap,
I want it too tight, I want to wear it
until someone tears it off me.
I want it sleeveless and backless,
this dress, so no one has to guess
what’s underneath. I want to walk down
the street past Thrifty’s and the hardware store
with all those keys glittering in the window,
past Mr. and Mrs. Wong selling day-old
donuts in their café, past the Guerra brothers
slinging pigs from the truck and onto the dolly,
hoisting the slick snouts over their shoulders.
I want to walk like I’m the only
woman on earth and I can have my pick.
I want that red dress bad.
I want it to confirm
your worst fears about me,
to show you how little I care about you
or anything except what
I want. When I find it, I’ll pull that garment
from its hanger like I’m choosing a body
to carry me into this world, through
the birth-cries and the love-cries too,
and I’ll wear it like bones, like skin,
it’ll be the goddamned
dress they bury me in.

Who is a wrestling fan? No comments yet

My son is a wrestling addict.  He lives and breathes the stuff.  He can tell you where the wrestlers were born, how much they weigh and what they had for breakfast!  He wears clothes with wrestling images on it.  He talks non-stop about them.  Get the picture?

I have found a site that is just perfect for him and all the millions of WWE fans out there.  It has wrestling information on it, but best of all it has a huge range of wrestling DVD’s to choose from.

If you have a WWE fan in your home then this place is for you.

Needlework Retreat 1 comment

If you love your needlework and can get to Victoria then I have a wonderful retreat for you.

The Spring Retreat is on October 10-12 in the Dandenong Ranges.  It is organised by Bernadette of The Needlework Boutique.  Three days of nothing but wonderful company, gorgeous springtime in the Dandenongs and needlework.  This sounds like craft heaven.

For more information visit The Needlework Boutique.
