Children First

Beauty Banquet and Funky Soaps are just two of the businesses that support the Children First Foundation, which was created by Moira Kelly.

Moira is an amazing woman.  Her background is almost too big to be believed.  She has been actively involved in humanitarian work since she was a teenager.  At 22 she was working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta.  She has worked with the homeless, and the ill all around the world.

We first came into contact with the Children First Foundation, established by Moira, when she set up her home in our local area.  She has sponsored children into Australia, and created medical teams to fly out to children in need.

:In 2006 the Foundation assisted eighteen children. These children received renal, cardiac, plastics, orthopaedic and neurological surgery and came from Albania, China, East Timor, Ethiopia, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Tibet, Solomon Islands, Somalia and Sri Lanka. Many of these children were here for extended stays and a number of the surgeries were ground breaking, thus providing valuable learning opportunities for medical teams. In addition we coordinated a medical team from Australia who flew to Palestine and performed renal and other operations on 47 children, following a visit by Moira earlier in the year. “

Moira has helped some wonderful children receive medical assistance that they would not otherwise have been able to access.  She has even, as I understand, adopted some of these children as her own.  They are schooled at the wonderful Assumption College which manages a curriculum and environment to suit their needs.  They rarely have a native language that is English yet they cope well with school.  They often have physical disabilities including missing limbs yet they join in everything that is going!  These children are as amazing as Moira, and deserve our admiration and support yet without Moira and the Children First Foundation they would have had no real futures to look forward to.
