Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day in Commonwealth countries. It is a day when we remember all those who have died in wars while protecting our country. Buy and wear your red poppy with pride, knowing that the proceeds are used by the RSL in their welfare work. The funds go to assist those who are still suffering because of war and the way it has impacted on their lives.
One of the most moving songs I have ever heard is called “I was only 19″ which was released a few years ago by an Australian band called Redgum.  Listen to these words and tell me that you don’t feel something! Then go and look at your poppy again and at 11am, during your 2 minutes silence, think about the people who have died for us.

Some messages just need music, don’ they? No wonder that the tradition of story-telling in song is as old as human history… very powerful, indeed.
