We had a stack of submissions to this edition so I was not able to include them all.   Please note that we accept only articles written by women. A great designer has been found! No comments yet

I had decided that I wanted a decent template for a newsletter that I will begin sending out from my new site at www.funkysoaps.com.au   Easy to do?  No.  Try finding a designer who doesn’t cost the earth, take forever, has a huge waiting list, or is prepared to do a small job like mine.  Hah!

Luckily for me I came across .  Now Lara is in the US and I am in Australia, so the whole thing was done via email.  I also find it hard to describe what I want when it comes to templates and all things webby, yet I had my template done to perfection in under a week!  Incredible!  What do you think of the header above?  Cool isn’t it?

Even more incredible was the ease with which it all happened.  Lara was great,  and made the whole process painless.  Her prices are very reasonable even with the exchange rates fluctuating.  Now that I have found her I wanted to let everyone know.  If you are in the market for a newsletter, blog or website template, or even some design work, go and visit Lara.  Tell her that I sent you.

How full is your teacup? No comments yet

I found this clever tale at The Modern Goddess Online.

In Zen Buddhism, there is a famous story about a businessman and a Zen master.  The businessman desires to become enlightened, so he visits the Zen master.  The Zen master offers the businessman tea.  He pours the tea into the cup and then keeps pouring until the tea is splashing on the floor.

The businessman becomes distraught and yells, “What are you doing?!”

The Zen master calmly replies, “This cup is like your mind: It is too full.  It must be emptied first before you can attain enlightenment.”

Simple tales like this one can carry a very powerful and clear message, can’t they?   How full is your mind?  If it is like mine, it is full of useless bits of data, things I should have remembered but didn’t, shopping lists, time reminders and so on.  Is it any wonder that I am not ‘enlightened’?

How full is your teacup?

Free Printable Stationery No comments yet

I have already told you about the cute designs of free printable stationery from Patty Gale.  My daughter decided that she wanted special stationery for her site at Alana Designs.  Alana is only 11 but she is very conscious of creating a good business image!

I came across a site called (funnily enough)  Free Printable Stationery and it is great!  Alana spent ages searching through the designs which cover personal, kids, business and many more categories.  It is a very handy site so I felt it well worth mentioning here.

The example above is called ‘Forgot” and is from the kids range.  Isn’t it sweet?

If you are in need of some interesting stationery then pay it a visit.  It is all free!

A Fresh Breath of Spring 2 comments

Spring is here (sometimes) and the sun is out (occasionally).  The flowers are starting to blossom and it finally feels as though life if beginning again.  I think that it is time to add some spring scents to your home to add that freshness to the air.  Won’t it be good to feel the energy start to move inside you again?

Here are a couple of recipes to bring spring to your home.  Use around 10 drops in your vapouriser to scent the air.

Citrus Shot (by SEOC)

4 drops lime essential oil,  3 drops lemon essential oil, 1 drop neroli essential oil, 2 drops mandarin essential oil, 1 drop petitgrain essential oil.

Spring Garden

4 drops jamine essential oil, 1 drop patchouli essential oil and 4 drops of lemon essential oil.

Flower Zone

8 drops neroli essential oil, 6 drops sandalwood essential oil, 2 drops lime essential oil and 1 drop coriander essential oil.

I hope you enjoy these scents and they bring you lots of vitality for the season.

Blog Action Day No comments yet

Today is blog action day and it is all about taking a stance on an issue that affects our environment.  An issue close to my heart is shopping with style.  How is that an evironmental issue?  It is all about eliminating those plastic bags, and looking good while you shop.

We all know the damage that plastic bags do to the world, particularly their impact on animals. yet most of us unthinkingly accept our newly bought items being handed to us in a snazzy plastic bag.  Why do we do that?  We only have to dispose of it when we get home, and there is no safe way to do that.

Why not plan ahead before you shop?  Remember in ‘the olden days’ that people used to take shopping baskets with them when they went out?  Their purchases were given to them in paper bags or wrapped in paper?  Just have a look at some of the old black and white movies!    Why can’t we do that now?  All it takes is a little preparation.

What do you need?  You need a basket or a tote bag (depending on what you are shopping for) and a few paper bags.  How do you do it?  Easy, just place your purchases in the basket and off you go.  You decline a plastic bag and place your purchase in one of your paper bags.  Little things like this will have an impact on shopkeepers and you can be proud to have made it.

Shopping with style is about looking good,  but it is about setting a style too.  The more of us that shop this way the stronger the style will be.  What is your shopping style?  Mine is earth-friendly.
