What is a Diva? No comments yet

(image from Wikipedia)

I have been asked why I called my blog Diva Days so I thought I would do a quick post to explain.
A Diva in the true sense of the word is as far from modern diva’s as possible. Many pop and movie stars are called ‘diva’s’ because of their outrageous demands. Personally, I would say that these people are spoilt and greedy.
A Diva is a woman who excels at what she does. Think Maria Callas and Audrey Hepburn, to name just a couple. These women worked very hard to become the stars that they were, and they both possessed exceptional abilities in their chosen fields.
Diva Days is for the woman who wants to excel in her field, whether it be raising a family, running a business or becoming a star. It is for the woman who aims high, but is prepared to have fun too. We don’t want the pressures of living like a Callas, but we want recognition for out achievements. We don’t want to sleep through our lives, we want to be someone who does something. A Diva is a stand-out woman.
We may not be Diva’s yet, but it is within us all to become one. At Diva Days we want to make it fun along the way.

What every woman must have. No comments yet

In complete contrast to the morals and standards of the Jane Austen age is the post I found at She-Essence. It is entitled ‘Every Woman’.

“A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…enough money within her control to move outand rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…something perfect to wear if the employer,or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour…”

Isn’t that the ideal post to show up the difference between our two ages? There are more verses to the poem so why not drop by She-essence and read it while you picture Elizabeth Bennet as a modern woman!

To be a Lady. 1 comment

I visited Tonic Gifts today, one of my regular haunts, and found this little gem. It is called “The Jane Austen Handbook” and it is all about etiquette in the time of Jane Austen.

Topics inside include “How to handle an unwanted marriage proposal” and “How to indicate interest in a gentleman without seeming too forward.”

Can you imagine living that way? If we were to write a book about today’s etiquette, what on earth would we say? Our modern manners are so different now. In many ways Jane’s was a more elegant and genteel era, but in others it was so repressed and restricting. I wonder what she would think of us and our modern lives?

The book is available from Tonic Gifts and it will tell you a lot about manners and etiquette.

Oils for your Chakra. 2 comments

What do you know about your chakra? I know very little, I am afraid. Did you know that each of your chakra points has a patron goddess taking care of it?

Nicole, from A Modern Goddess Online, has just released a new range of essential oils for your chakra points. Each oil is named in honour of the goddess who cares for that point. An example:

“Persephone is the patroness of our Solar Plexus chakra. Use her oil to accept yourself, believe in your gifts and abilities, to recharge and retvitalise your personal power and to trust in yourself. “

What a lovely gift these oils would make. There are seven oils in the range. Why not buy the set?

Martini for Breakfast? 4 comments

Start the day with a recipe fit for a diva - the Breakfast Martini.

Ingredients:

2 cup frozen blueberries — almost thawed
3 large frozen strawberries — almost thawed
1/2 cup of your favorite granola cereal
3 ounces vanilla pudding
whipped cream for topping
a single maraschino cherry

In your favorite martini glass, layer your ingredients in 1/4 inch layers. Start with a single strawberry, then a layer of blueberries, then the granola, then then the pudding. Repeat until glass is full.

You might prefer to use vanilla fruche or yoghurt instead of the cream. Use whatever berry you like- raspberries are great too.

How Romantic 1 comment

Are you a romantic diva? Do you love hearing stories of happy relationships, weddings and new beginnings? Have I got a tale for you!

At Etched In Memories I read the lovely true tale of a girl (who is truly a Diva) and how she proposed to her man. That is the way to go! Why wait for the romantic to appear in your life - just go and get it!

She had a lovely pendant engraved for their anniversary and presented it to him. Here it is:

Isn’t that a lovely idea? Of course, he said yes!

Shoes, Glorious Shoes! 3 comments

We all know that shoes can be an addiction. Hundreds of pairs can be lurking quietly inside your wardrobe, waiting for the day you redisover them.

At My New Shiny Shoes Michelle was talking about lovely, clear shoeboxes to keep your shoe treasures in. You will always know which shoes are where because they can be seen.

That led me to thinking about what it would be like to enter a wardrobe full of these shoe wonders? Remind you of yours?

Friday Funny 7 1 comment

Another week is done and here we are at Friday again. Last week we didn’t have a funny as such. I had the clever story of the storm sent in instead, which I then told to you. Congratulations must go to Nicole and Angela for their comments on Funny No. 6. You girls are very clever.

Now have a go at this one.

Can you think of the perfect caption for this image? You have one week to submit them and you can submit as many as you like. All you have to do is to post your caption as a comment on this post. While there is not a prize for your responses you do win a link back to your site!

Good luck.
