Another Diva Recipe 2 comments

Not all of us can be great cooks, but we can strut with authority around the kitchen (even in stilettos) if we are handy with a can opener. This is a great recipe to have on standby when you need to produce a fast and impressive meal.

Creamy Chicken with Pasta and Asparagus.
Serves 6

INGREDIENTS:
225 g uncooked penne
1 can asparagus spears
1 tspn margarine (optional)
250 g skinless, boneless chicken strips
40 g chopped onions
2/3 can condensed cream of chicken soup
80 ml milk
80 ml white wine (or water if preferred)
40 g cream cheese, softened and chopped up
40 g grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Place penne in the pot, and cook until spaghetti is al dente. Drain, and transfer to a large bowl.

Melt the margarine in a pan (or spray pan with oil) over medium heat, and cook the chicken and onion 5 minutes until the onions are softened

In a bowl, whisk together the soup, wine, milk, and cream cheese until smooth. Add to the pan with the chicken and onion, and bring to the boil. Simmer 5 minutes, or until slightly thickened.

Add in the asparagus spears and penne and stir gently to mix. Sprinke with parmesan. Serve in a large bowl with crusty bread.

What is new at Beauty Banquet? We have new arrivals in our gourmet soap range. These are beautiful handmade soaps made of olive oils, palm oils and coconut oils. Delicious aren’t they? Handmade and hand decorated, the slices are a minimum of 115g each. They are hand sliced too.

The pink sugared cupcake is $5.00 and the others are all priced at $6.95. The cakes are Raspberry Turkish Delight, Chocolate Mocha, Sweet Rose, Coconut Ice and Lavender and Mint. They are large slices and look just like the real thing.

Quilt Fabric Delights 2 comments

Even though I can’t sew at all (nor do I have any intention of learning how to) I love to look at beautiful fabrics. They are artworks in their own right.

My favourite Australian online fabric shop is Quilt Fabric Delights. Sarah also has a blog where she shows what can be done with some fabric and a little imagination. She stocks some gorgeous fabrics and as she shows in this picture, not everything has to be done with needle and thread.

I love this piece of fabric and it is now turned into instant art.

Visit Quilt Fabric Delights blog and see what other wonders Sarah has created with fabric.

I need a massage. 1 comment

Recently on Diva Days we ran a poll on what you would do with your free time if you had any. The overall winner by a clear majority was “Have a massage”. What a great choice that is. Not only does it relax you, but it has other benefits too.

Massage has probably been around as long as human have. What mother hasn’t instinctively rubbed the back of her baby or child to help soothe it? There is written evidence dating from 5000 years ago that massage was used in ancient China, and later in India and Egypt. In the early 19th century Per Henrik Ling developed the system of massage that we are familiar with today, often called Swedish massage.

Massage has physical and psychological benefits and is something that we should experience regularly. Massage stimulates circulation and boosts the immune system. It aids in digestion and can ease respiratory complaints. It helps to flush toxins out of our systems, and above all it relieves tired and stressed muscles. Reflexology, reiki and shiatsu are different forms of massage but all rely on the power of touch. Massage for relaxation should be gentle and soothing, and conducted in a soft and serene environment. It is a technique that should be used with care as the hands become instruments of healing.

Today we live our lives at such a hectic pace that our bodies carry the stresses of the mind every day. Depression, heart attacks, back pain and general bodily pain or stiffness are common throughout society. Our minds never stop working as we rush through the days. Massage can soothe the mind and ease bodily tension which, in turn, will help to stop the onset of physical and nervous diseases. It is a preventative tool as much as a treatment and is something that we really should schedule into our week. Yes, I said schedule. If you don’t mark it in you won’t make the time for it in your busy day.

Prevention is better than a cure, particularly in this case. Why wait for ‘if we have the time’? Perhaps a better question would be ‘Why don’t you make the time?”

When Opportunity Knocks 1 comment

They say that opportunity knocks but in reality it can hurl itself at you or, sometimes, slink in the back door. It can be really difficult to be ready for opportunity when you don’t know where it will come from.

Some things that you can do:

Keep your eyes open - and by that I mean really be alert. If you look for opportunities you will see them.

Update yourself - Keep your skills, knowledge and yourself up to date. If you are lagging a year or two behind you may not be able to use the opportunity when it arrives.

Change your habits or your processes. Sometimes this might even create an opportunity!

Keep your resume and personal documentation up to date and ready to present in an instant.

Maintain your health. You can’t reach very high if you are bedridden.

Exercise your thinking. You may need to be creative to see how to use the opportunity.

Practice positivity - don’t let the possible pitfalls blind you to the bonuses.

Many of us are just too scared to try new things in case we fail. Others just jump blindly into the deep end. Personally, I would rather take the risk and try out the opportunity than miss out altogether.

The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.

Carnival of Funny Diva Days No.1 3 comments

Welcome to the first edition of Funny Diva Days. We have all had one of these days at some time. You know the ones. You are all dressed up and looking glam when you hit the town, only to find that your dress is tucked into your knickers! It doesn’t seem funny at the time but when you look back it can bring on the giggles. Best of all, these are the days that really make you assess your grooming and appearance before you leave the house.

As we jean-bedecked diva’s know, looking glam is not as easy as the stars make it look. Here to share their stories of funny diva days are the following authors.

Tracee Sioux from Blog Fabulous shares her story of the Fake Eyelashes and the power of marketing..

Mad Cow tells a tale of green icing, kids and her boobs in Diary of a Mad Cow.

The Tall Poppy has a tale of the day her appearance let her down in Oops!

At All Women’s Talk they share pictures of the Ugliest Bridesmaid Dresses Ever. Can you believe that you ever chose anything like that? Even worse, can you believe that you made someone actually wear it? Oh, it wasn’t you? Lucky!

Robinson Go of Good Advice has a great yarn about The Alligator Shoes. While this doesn’t really fit the model as a true story it is really funny to read. Brighten someone else’s day by passing the link on.

Rips and Snips from Whatever Life Magazine has a really funny story of a dress disaster. It is the kind of thing we have nightmares about.

Just so you don’t think that these kinds of things only happen to regular run-of-the-mill diva’s I have included this little gem. Read about J Lo and her makeup mistakes at Off the Rack.

That concludes this first edition. I would appreciate authors adding a link to this carnival. on your site. You are invited to submit your blog article to the next edition of Carnival of Funny Diva Days using our carnival submission form. I hope to see you again next time.

Divo Days? 4 comments

Isn’t it great to see men looking after themselves properly these days? In previous generations men managed with shaving cream, perhaps some Brylcreem in their hair and a splash of Old Spice after shave. The arrival of the Avon lady at least gave women the opportunity to buy some different colognes for their men which, unfortunately, often seemed to stay unopened as a bathroom decoration.

Today there is a whole new market in mens grooming products and the men are taking full advantage of it. Let me introduce you to a mens range that has just arrived at Beauty Banquet.
It is an aromatherapy based skincare range by Mere Dream and it is divine.

I fight to get my female hands on these products. The scent is fantastic. This is a complete set of 5 products for men. It includes Aftershave Serum, Aftershave Tonic, Hand and Body Lotion, Bath Soak and Exfoliating Body Bar. The packaging is modern, sophisticated and clean. It is made of pure organic ingredients with no nasty chemicals, and the products have not been diluted with water. A little bit will go a long way.

This has to be the best skincare range for men that I have come across and at AUD$85.00 for the 5 piece set is also excellent value.
